Motivating Story of CA Shhefali Doshi - Passed CA IPCC in 8th Attempt & qualified CA in 15 years (Younger brother died in between)

CA Shhefali Doshi

"All my life I wanted to be an - Interior Designer. However, my mother wanted me to pursue commerce so that I have a degree, which would help me get a basic job and the required financial support in future. So, I let go of my dream of being an Interior Designer and decided to consider commerce," says CA Shhefali Doshi.
'' Growing up we had financial issues. My mom found it very difficult getting a job as she was not a graduate. So she was fearful that if I pursue arts and things didn't work out for me, I would be in a similar situation.
I scored well in grade 10 but was short of few marks to get admission into NM College. So when neither the college nor the stream of my interest happened, I had no motivation to study with interest and commitment. I was in a state of panic.
While on one hand, I started liking commerce and so I scored well in grade 12. On the other hand, I got introduced to CA through a friend. She kept talking about her articleship experience, stipend , money which fascinated me.
Post graduation, I enrolled for CA. Since I pursued CA post graduation my articleship started ASAP. Also I had to directly give the second level exam - PE 2 (now known as IPCC ). I was so sure of clearing PE 2 in one attempt , after all I had scored 84 % in B.Com. But I think I was over confident!
I cleared group one in the first attempt and the second group in almost 7 attempts. I often went through a state of confusion, frustration, despair but I continued pursuing CA. Upon further analysis, I realized that the main reason for my failure was my FEAR. I used to get scared of failing which used to stress me. So I always tell people throw away FEAR, Trust yourself.
Then came CA Final. During this phase, there were many family issues. The main one being the death of my younger brother. This made studying very difficult for me. He expired in September 2001 and my CA Final was in Nov 2001. Inspite of all this I still appeared for my exam but did not clear !
However my brother's sudden death made life very difficult. My parents were devastated and so was I. I decided to take a break from CA.
After a gap of a year or so I decided to start studying for my CA Final. Again, concentrating on studies was even tougher as we were not completely out of the trauma of my brother's demise. But I pushed myself. I prayed a lot and got strong spiritually. Finally, I cleared both groups simultaneously in November 2006 and May 2007 and became a Chartered Accountant.''
What is your ADVICE to others, '' In all it was a journey of 14 long years with lots of ups and downs but I am like that gold who has been through all and is still shinning !!! Real gold fears NO FIRE. I am still hopeful , happy and joyful. Above all going through all that mess has made me more tolerant, patient and increased my faith in God and in myself.
I also tell people - PURSUE WHAT YOU LOVE, FOLLOW YOUR HEART. Had I pursued Interior Designing, may be I would have a different story to tell. But no complains. ALL HAPPENS FOR THE BEST.

I am also very happy that I am able to take care of my parents in a better way specifically in absence of my brother,'' she concluded.

Motivating Story of CA Lokesh Pokharna - Blind from Right Eye

CA Lokesh Pokharna
"I AM COMPLETELY BLIND IN MY RIGHT EYE . When I was 5 years old a sharp object went into my right eye while playing with my friends. I was too young to feel depressed about it then. However as I grew older I realized my family used to consider me 'less-abled' and were always worried about my future, that's when the loss of an eye hit me," says CA Lokesh Pokharna who belongs to a very small small village Chittorgarh in Rajasthan.
"However it also ENCOURAGED me to work hard for a better future for me and my family, so no complains!!! At 13 years old I started a 'Grocessory Store' in an empty space outside my house. I used to run the shop all by myself and study as well. This went on till I cleared my 12th grade exam. Fortunately my maternal uncle who always saw the potential in me and believed in my abilities decided to fill the CPT exam (1st level CA) form for me. That's how CA happened !!!!!
I worked hard for CPT and cleared it in ONE GO. Then came IPCC ( 2nd level of CA). I cleared it in 3 attempts, without any coaching. There were days when I wanted to give up as I had a lot of pressure to work as my family needed me to contribute financially to the household. However I kept reminding myself that FAILURE IS DELAY, NOT DEFEAT and kept pushing, though mentally I had decided if I fail one more time I would give up. Luckily I cleared in the 3rd attempt!!!
I did my articleship from Chittorgarh itself. During all this time I managed my expenses with my savings which I had while running my grocessory shop.
Then came CA Final. I decided to give only the 2nd group ( CA Final has 8 papers divided in 2 groups, one can give both groups together or anyone of them first) this attempt. I enrolled for CA Final lectures in Indore. However this attempt I failed miserably. To be honest there was this girl who I met in class and I fell in love with her. It was one sided kind of love. I was never able to express my feelings to her. I was completely distracted at times and completely focussed at times. It was funny !!!
Again my family insisted that I quit and start working . However I knew I had to become a CA else all my efforts would be of no use. The next attempt I decided to work really hard. I would wake up at 6 am and study till 9 pm in the library and then study again in the night, this continued for 4 months till my exam.
Also during this phase I discovered the importance of my MIND. One day while travelling by train, I met a man who was reading the ' THE POWER OF YOUR SUB CONSCIOUS MIND' by Dr Joseph Murphy. I was fascinated by the idea of how our sub conscious mind can influence our life. I purchased that book immediately and started practicing it.
The book said we become what we REPEATEDLY tell ourselves internally, in our HEAD. Along with studying hard, I kept telling myself that I AM A CA and I would IMAGINE myself clearing CA. This attempt I cleared my CA Finals and got the exact same marks I decided to achieve!!! I learnt a big lesson here- We BECOME WHAT WE REPEATEDLY KEEP TELLING OURSELVES. Positive SELF TALK can create magic!!! This book is a must read.
After becoming a CA I worked in a steel plant, then in HDFC Bank and recently I started my CA own practice in Ahmedabad.
So my ADVICE is - Success comes from experience and experience may sometimes come from bad experience. So whatever you wish to pursue give it your ALL. COMMIT to YOURSELF. COMMIT to OVERCOMING NEGATIVITY. COMMIT to a BETTER LIFE. And remember WE become what we keep telling ourselves, so ALWAYS keep telling yourself an amazing story about YOURSELF," he concluded.
